Please Explain the different Tai Chi Styles?

Hi guys. I think i want to learn how to do Tai Chi. Ive been doin meditation lately and would love to expand.

I want to do the slow style tai chi and maybe also the fighting style. Is there 1 style that does both?

Or do I need to do 2 different styles. Can some of you please explain in layman terms the difference between Chen, Wu, etc...thanks so much!

And whats the best way to learn without doing classes?|||The easiest way to find out is to go along to a Tai Chi school and ask the instructor.

It would take me hours to explain the full concepts of this art to you.

Also the art is both internal and external so could not be self taught with great success.

Research online http://www.everyday-taichi.com/tai-chi-s鈥?/a>

and then find the best school in your area and go along to see.|||Chen Style Taijiquan is the original style of Taijiquan created for fighting in wars and for self defense. Taijiquan was revered for its health benefits and effectiveness as a MA. Taijiquan was a well kept secret only taught to members of the Chen family for hundreds of years.

Chen Style Yilu was then taught to some guy named Yang and he was forbbiden to teach Chen Style to others so he came up with his own style that was less intensive on the body. He went to Peking and started a school. He taught many people his Taijiquan, some as a MA and others as a health exercise. Thats where many people started to think Taijiquan is a health exercise. Then thats where the other styles came along.

Any style of Taijiquan is a MA if u find a good instructor that knows and will teach it as one. There are many instructors out there that havent stepped foot in the door that teach students their flawed understanding of the MA. I have seen people who have practiced for many years that claim to be sifus and have students that had less of an understanding of Taijiquan than what i learned in 6 months.

Do research on the schools in ur area, their instructors, and their lineages. U just need to find a knowlegable instructor to study under. If they start talking about mystical stuff then turn around and leave immediately because they are going to scam u. Taijiquan is a MA first and foremost. Anyone who tells u differently doesnt know what theyre talking about.
