I want to practice tai chi at home. Which websites can help?

I would like websites that have illustrations on positions, and instructions. If nothing else, I wanna cover the basics of tai chi, and as a side note, I can't read Chinese.|||http://taichi.snowseed.com/index.html

There are several different styles. To name a few:

Yang

Chen

Sun

Wu

Taoist (Wudang)

Lee

Each style has several different forms associated with it.

To see videos of just a few different forms, see:

This should get the concept across that you need to narrow your target.

First I would STRONGLY sugest that you find out which styles are taught in your area and choose one of those styles. That way, should you ever decide to take a class, you will at least be practicing the same style that the school teaches.

.|||practicing from online sources usually doesn't help. It's better to go to a class and practice what you learned at home. Books and online sources often lack many specific and crucial details for the movement to be trully effective.|||I haven't seen any websites that I can recommend, or any videos for that matter. I think I am in the minority that believes that you can learn from videos. You should still seek a school but the reality is that there simply isn't always a school available, funds might be tight, and people lack the time.

This video on YouTube looks pretty good to me to get started. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=鈥?/a> If that link doesn't work for some reason just got to youtube.com then search for Tai Chi.|||At the very least a good instructional video should be used. It is very hard for a beginner to grasp the flow of tai chi, and it would be impossible from a book. In general tai chi forms (the base of tai chi practice) are not so much a series of moves and postures but a series of smooth transitions. Illustrations are great for ironing out problems, and learning applications once you have a decent foundation. You might want to ask around to friends and family. One of them may have taken classes and be willing to help you.
