Starting Tai Chi for the first time, is the uniform necessary - any other insights?

As a person completely new to martial arts, I was wondering if the uniform is necessary and if it serves a purpose, etc.

I am accustomed to Yoga pants and that type of work out gear.

Any insight, recommendations, tips, etc. for a person just starting Tai Chi?|||Other than being part of the school requirement nothing special is required. What you wear for Yoga will be good. I run my classes and only request people wear sweats and T's.

Folks in China wear regular clothes unless they belong to a special club that requires a uniform.

There are traditional uniforms for clubs.|||Only to add one thing to Sifu Frank who gave the best necessary answer...

If you wear everyday clothes (as allowed by your school) don't wear somethinig that will constrict you when moving, or something that will restrict your motion and relaxation...

Have fun with it, it's a great thing!!

There is not any special meaning to the uniform. They are just that, a uniform for uniformity and freedom of movement in the classes. Uniforms are always very cheap, and if you get something that is incredibly expensive, they will most likely be a ripoff... One of my fellow classmates went home to China and got some good uniforms of which I bought several, custom made, and they were only $70 total for multiple sets...|||Just wear loose clothing and Flat Soled sneakers(like Converse). There is no sense in wearing those uniforms unless ur participating in a tournament. Eat a small meal an hr and a half before class.|||you just need clothes that allow freedom of movement.|||What Sifu Frank said.
